Estoy en Santiago!
So, after a heartattack experience in Atlanta, Georgia, things were much smoother coming here to Santiago. I traveled with Gracie Wu, Andrew Yang, and Christy. We first had a 3 hour flight to Mexico D.F. then after a 2.5 hour layover (escala), we boarded a massive plane to Santiago, which took 8 hours. Although the seats were a bit cramped (nothing new with airplanes), overall the ride was comfortable. I was a bit zonked out so when we landed in Santiago, I thought we were still in the air experiencing turbulence. I only realized that we were cruising on the runway when people started getting up to get their stuff. When I walked out of the plane I noticed a few things. Like the freezing cold air. And the hazy snowcapped peaks right behind the airport. Crazy. We got our stuff, went through customs and all that jazz, and got a van to take us to hostel international, where I'm at right now.
As we were driving through the city to get to the hostel, there were endless communities of both tattered and derelict houses stacked on top of each other, and well built big houses intermingling together. It reminded me a lot of INTL 101 and 102. On the other side there was a gutter-type thing with water, and a lot of trash scattered on the sloping walls. The closer we got to the city, we saw old narrow streets lined with old colorful houses with decorative adornments lining the windows and doors. The trees were lazily hanging over las calles were dressed in fading green and brown leaves.
So in sum, I know there will be a lot to see. Both lovely and broken, majestic and humble. I am seriously bursting with excitment to see where God will led me and what He'll show me!
Now time for a nap. Peace
